In Velez Music School, the main goal for us is to use Music as the main tool, to help our students developing values like perseverance, determination and patience, among other virtues, at the same time they have fun performing it.
Jose Alfonso Velez
His first guitar studies began at the age of 9, under the tutorship of Maestro and pianist Jose Ramon Tirado, where he learned to read music and presented his first recital at 10 years old. From that moment his interest in the study and practice of the instrument became paramount in his daily life.
At the age of 22, he entered the Bachelor of Music Education degree at Imperial Valley College, where he had the opportunity to study music with Dr. Van Decker (Composition) and Dr. Hope Davis (Music Theory). In 2014 he was accepted into the Imperial Valley Symphony Orchestra, where he has performed as a percussionist and guitarist, under the direction of chief conductor Dr. Joel Jacklich.
At the age of 26, he initiates studies of the highest academic quality in classical guitar and is selected to receive a master class with the acclaimed concert guitarist Michael Chapdelaine (Student of Andres Segovia). Afterwards, he is presented with the opportunity to take the workshop of ‘’Guitar Perfectionism”, given by the guitar icon Rafael Elizondo.
In June of 2017, Imperial Valley College awarded him with a Departmental Award in recognition of outstanding accomplishment for his constant achievements in the music department. In Spring of 2018, he graduated from Imperial Valley College with the Associate of Fine Arts in MUSIC for Transfer Degree.
To this day, Jose Alfonso Velez is focused on working on the important qualities necessary to become an academic guitarist and world-class concert performer, studying everything necessary to bring him closer to his life plan every day.
